Honour-Based Abuse Awareness Events

The Student Welfare Team are running a series of honour-based abuse awareness stalls during Semester 2. The first event will take place on Wednesday 11th March in the Dalton Building between 2pm-4pm, and the second will take place on Tuesday 28th April in the Business School between 2-4pm. The Welfare Team will have information on university support, namely Report & Support which can be used by students and staff to disclose concerns and request to speak to an advisor to discuss support. We will also have local specialist support services in attendance sharing resources, information, and engaging in discussions with students on the topic of honor-based abuse. The specialist external services are:

Reclaim the Night

On 12th February 2026, the Reclaim the Night march takes place. This is an annual nationwide campaign against sexual harassment and gender-based violence. The march starts at the University of Manchester Student's Union and is open to everyone within, and beyond, the Manchester student community to get involved. During the week of Reclaim the Night, there are events taking place on campus: Self Defence Class at the Union and a Banner Making Session at the Union. Our monthly Sexual Violence Drop-in is running on Tuesday 10th February, the same week as Reclaim the Night, allowing anybody to speak to external specialist services for confidential advice and support.

FGM Education and Awareness Event

6th February marks the UN's International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. The Student Welfare Team are running an event in the Brooks Building 11am - 1pm to share information and have discussions with future health and education professionals on the topic of FGM. We have colleagues from the Greater Manchester Victims Service and Savera attending to join in these conversations.

Consent Matters

Throughout October we are promoting our student training module Consent Matters at stalls across campus. Join us to talk about the importance of consent and looking out for others when creating a campus where everyone feels safe, respected, and supported. Also learn more about support available to students.

You can find us at

  • The Brooks building on 01/10/25 between 10am-1pm
  • The Business School on 07/10/25 between 1pm-4pm
  • Archway Halls on 08/10/25 between 1-3pm
  • The Geoffrey Manton building on 21/10/25 between 10-1pm

Consent Matters is a short, interactive online course that takes around 30 minutes to complete. It will help you understand what consent and harassment mean in everyday situations; build stronger, healthier relationships; look out for others in our community; learn how to step in safely when something doesn’t feel right.

16 Days of Activism

25th November - 10th December 2025 sees the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence - you can read more about this here

Please note: whilst the international campaign focuses on violence against women and girls, we recognise that gender-based violence is experienced by all marginalised genders, including trans and non-binary individuals, therefore the events we are running during this time are open to all genders, allies included.

We will be holding a 16 Days of Activism Support Fair on the 25th November, 11am-3pm in the Dalton Building. Local organisations (including Greater Manchester Rape Crisis, Manchester Women's Aid and the LGBT Foundation) will be offering information and support to students on the topics of harassment and sexual violence.

On 2nd December 2025, the Student Welfare Team ran a Bake Sale for staff to fundraise for Manchester Action on Street Health. We are very pleased to have raised £134 for this vital local service.
